Who is going to sell it?
You have two choices here: you can sell your plate yourself or you can instruct a number plate dealer to sell it for you. There are pros and cons to both:
Pros | Cons | |
---|---|---|
You sell it | You don’t pay any commission. You control the pricing. You speak with the buyer directly. |
You may not be able to negotiate the best price for the plate. You might need capital for advertising costs. You might not have the time. |
A dealer sells it | Dealers can have a wide range of people ready to buy your plate. Dealers advertise widely. Dealers might get a quicker sale. |
You can lose a lot of the value in commission to the dealer. They may been keener to sell a more attractive ABC plate than your ABC plate for a higher premium. |

Please note: At the end of 2013 all 39 local DVLA offices closed and the DVLA transferred all dealings to its national centre at Swansea. If your vehicle was registered before the end of 2013 then the street view map shown on the car registration page will point to the original office despite the fact that the office has closed.
